Designed for Real-World Mixing
Spectralyze helps bridge the gap between the studio and the real world — giving you the freedom to analyze, compare, collaborate, and refine your mixes from virtually anywhere.
Not Just for Engineers!
Spectralyze is just as useful for musicians, writers, and bands as it is for engineers.
Use markers to
organize song sections,
quickly jump through arrangements, and
create loops for practice or writing.
Playback controls allow you to
slow songs down for learning,
pitch-shift into your tuning, and
experiment with ideas in real time.
The metronome can also be adjusted in level and stereo position to match your workflow.
Whether you are practicing, writing, analyzing, or collaborating, Spectralyze is designed to keep creativity moving.
Compare your mixes!
Compare your mixes to previous versions or to professional reference tracks to better understand what needs improvement.
Choose references that are as close as possible in:
genre,
energy,
tempo,
instrumentation, and
overall feel.
Now listen critically
Is your bass too loud or too quiet?
Does your snare hit as hard?
Are the vocals clear enough?
Are the guitars too harsh or too dark?
Constantly switch back and forth while listening.
Use Freq Focus in the Sound category to isolate frequency ranges and better understand your mix:
Does your low end feel as full?
Are your upper mids too aggressive?
Is your high end dull?
Experiment with
Range to widen or narrow the selected frequencies
Slope to control how quickly audio fades outside the selected range
You can isolate only a narrow band, or listen to everything above or below it to better understand where problems exist.
References are learning tools!
Reference tracks are not there to copy exactly.
They help train your ears to better understand:
tonal balance,
punch,
dynamics,
stereo width,
low-end control, and
overall energy.
The goal is not to become identical to another mix, but to better understand why professional mixes translate well across different systems.
Louder isn't always better!
When comparing mixes, louder audio often sounds better even when it actually isn't.
Try to keep mixes at similar listening levels while comparing so you can focus on:
tonal balance,
clarity,
punch,
dynamics, and
stereo image
instead of simply reacting to volume.
When using the Parametric EQ, use Lvl Comp so that you're not hearing an overall change in volume and can make more informed decisions than reacting to something simply being louder.
Level match your tracks automatically via Level Simulation under Technical › Metering or via Settings. This ensures that you are listening to mixes on an even level.
Check how your mix will sound when it is set to a streaming level compared to your full volume mix and adjust your master level accordingly.
Why does my mix sound different everywhere?
This is completely normal.
Different speakers, headphones, rooms, and cars all emphasize different frequency ranges.
A mix that sounds balanced on studio monitors may become:
muddy,
harsh,
thin,
boomy, or
overly bright
on another system.
Spectralyze helps you better understand how your mix translates by allowing you to compare references, isolate problem frequencies, and analyze tonal balance more objectively.
Fix your mix!
Hearing an annoying resonance, ringing tone, or harsh frequency?
Use the Sweep Filter to isolate frequencies and identify what stands out.
Adjust the Q control to change how narrow or wide the selected frequency range becomes.
When a frequency consistently jumps out — even as notes change — try placing a Parametric EQ band at that frequency and gently cutting it.
Small EQ moves on a full mix are powerful. Large boosts or cuts usually mean the issue should be fixed inside the mix itself rather than on the master.
Remember: EQ affects everything in that frequency range — not just the instrument bothering you.
If one element is unbalanced against the others, fix the individual instrument in the mix whenever possible.
Solo with purpose!
Soloing frequency bands can help reveal hidden problems, but always remember to listen in context afterward.
A sound that seems harsh or strange by itself may fit perfectly inside the full mix.
Use isolation tools to understand problems — not to mix instruments completely on their own.
Ear fatigue is real!
After long listening sessions, your ears naturally become less sensitive — especially to high frequencies.
This can make it harder to judge brightness, harshness, and balance accurately.
Take regular breaks and revisit your mix with fresh ears whenever possible.
Spectralyze's visual analysis and AI tools can also help provide objective feedback when your hearing becomes fatigued.
Power of the Elite!
With an Elite subscription, you unlock powerful AI-assisted tools designed to help you better understand your mix and reach your target sound faster.
AI tools can
analyze your mix,
suggest improvements,
compare against references,
simulate changes, and
recommend plugins, processing techniques, and equipment.
When objectivity disappears after hours of listening, AI analysis can help bring fresh perspective back into the process.
Elite users also gain access to Stem Splitting, allowing instruments to be isolated, removed, or remixed into custom versions that can then be saved locally.
Power in numbers!
With an Elite subscription, users can create collaborative cloud-based sessions for remote production, songwriting, and mix review.
Sessions stream directly from the creator's cloud storage, allowing others to hear the latest mixes without requiring local downloads.
Features include
timestamped notes,
shared feedback,
synchronized collaboration, and
sample-locked microphone recordings.
Got a vocal idea or solo riff? Record it directly from your device and it will automatically stay locked in time with the session.
Pro users can join sessions and review mixes, while Elite users can fully contribute and collaborate.
Invited users can also generate referral bonuses when joining through shared session invitations.
When in doubt, reach out!
Spectralyze is built by passionate music creators who actively use the platform themselves.
We want your ideas, feedback, and feature requests to help shape Spectralyze into the ultimate tool for musicians, producers, engineers, and collaborators.
We're always listening.
